Odisha approves 318 more PG medical seats, taking total to 938

Reports from Bhubaneswar dated 6 November say the National Medical Commission has approved 318 additional postgraduate medical seats across 14 disciplines in government medical colleges and PG institutions in Odisha. The state's total PG intake rises from 620 to 938. Five government medical colleges, in Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Koraput, Talcher and Phulbani, will offer PG courses for the first time.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling called the increase a historic step toward producing more skilled specialist doctors in the state. Pragativadi reports that the added seats are expected to help address specialist shortages in peripheral and tribal areas. For hospitals and departments in Odisha, the change means more PG training places in government institutions.
