Union Health Minister Inaugurates ₹39 Crore Advanced Radiotherapy Facility at AIIMS Rajkot
Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda inaugurated a ₹39 crore Advanced Radiotherapy Facility at AIIMS Rajkot on November 2, 2026, marking a major development in cancer care infrastructure across Gujarat.
Established under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), the facility is expected to benefit approximately 1.54 crore people across Saurashtra and nearby regions, reducing the need for patients to travel to cities like Ahmedabad and Mumbai for specialised cancer treatment.
Key Highlights:
– Investment: Approximately ₹39 crore.
– Annual Patient Capacity: Estimated 500–700 cases.
– Advanced Equipment: High Energy Linear Accelerator (LINAC), Wide Bore CT Simulator and High Dose Rate (HDR) Brachytherapy Unit.
– Treatment Technologies: IMRT, VMAT, IGRT, SRS, SRT and SBRT.
– Integrated Care: Radiotherapy, chemotherapy and surgical oncology services.
The facility supports precise radiation treatment for various cancers, including head and neck, breast, gynaecological and bone cancers.
Why it matters: This development is expected to improve access to advanced and specialised cancer treatment for patients across Saurashtra, particularly those from rural and economically weaker communities. Eligible Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY beneficiaries can access treatment free of cost, while other patients will receive treatment at subsidised rates.
