Starting an IVF center isn’t just a medical decision, it’s a business one too. Dr. Kishor Kavad, Founder of Ansh IVF, breaks down exactly what doctors need before taking that leap.
Get Your Financial Backup Ready First
Before anything else, financial stability matters most. According to Dr. Kavad, a doctor should have at least six to eight months, ideally a full year, of financial backup before starting an IVF center. Because maintenance costs alone can be overwhelming, jumping in without this cushion can stall growth before it even begins.
However, if the backup, family support, and marketing knowledge are already in place, he’s direct about it: start immediately. The demand exists. What’s missing for most doctors isn’t opportunity, it’s preparation.
Choose Ethics Over Shortcuts
Dr. Kavad’s advice on practice itself is simple: stay completely ethical. Doctors who prioritize ethical practice over volume tend to retain patients longer, and therefore build sustainable centers, not just busy ones.
He also stresses a specific discipline: when a success rate drops, don’t walk away from the reason why. If ten reports come back negative in a row, something is being missed. Chasing patient expectations or revenue instead of the root cause, he warns, is exactly how quality slips.
Why Technology Defines Real Quality When Starting an IVF Center
So, what actually separates a high-performing IVF lab from an average one? According to Dr. Kavad, a few specific technologies matter most.
Blastocyst culture allows embryos to grow for five days instead of three, significantly improving success rates. Laser-assisted hatching thins the embryo’s outer layer, making implantation easier. Genetic testing (PGT) identifies healthy embryos before transfer, particularly valuable for patients with repeated pregnancy loss. Finally, a lab care system, connected sensors that alert staff instantly if temperature or oxygen levels shift, protects embryos from being lost due to unnoticed equipment failure.
Because injections used in IVF must stay between 2 to 8 degrees Celsius, even patient care extends to something as simple as never letting a patient carry injections home unsupervised.
The Real Cost Behind IVF
Interestingly, cost differences between centers usually come down to one thing: which injections and equipment are actually being used. A center charging significantly less is likely compromising somewhere, and patients rarely know where.
For doctors building a center, that’s the real toolkit: financial readiness, unwavering ethics, and genuine investment in lab quality, not shortcuts that quietly cost patients their outcomes.
