BMC reportedly seeks private operator for Bhagwati Hospital, Mumbai
Mumbai's civic body reportedly plans a 30-year private operator for the revamped Bhagwati Hospital, though the original report could not be verified.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation reportedly plans to give a redeveloped Shri Harilal Bhagwati hospital in Borivali, which has 490 beds, to a private operator for 30 years. Earlier reporting says the hospital underwent expansion funded by the civic body, and that tenders have so far been floated for two hospitals, in Borivali and Mankhurd. We could not locate the Times of India report dated 24 October 2026, so the reversal described in the headline is not verified here.
A civic health official reportedly cited limited funds and a shortage of staff across the corporation's 17 hospitals as reasons for handing five hospitals, with nearly 2,500 beds, to private partners. Municipal employees who would be removed from the hospitals have opposed the move, and their union has protested outside Bhagwati hospital. For doctors and hospital operators, the case adds to the debate over public-private models for running large civic facilities in Mumbai, though the final terms remain to be confirmed.
